pomegranate - pink, beautiful, crunchy and full of vitamins - www.healthyhappysteffi.com

I don’t know if it is my new cookbook Plenty More that made me so crazy about pomegranates. Or maybe my body is just addicted to all the great ingredients. Anyway, it is a top health food that additionally tastes really, really delicious!

And these pink, sweet, sour, crunchy seeds are so versatile. You can use them in smoothies, juice, muesli, sprinkle them over your salad, it fits perfect with eggplants or quinoa and so much more…

How to deseed a fresh pomegranate, I’ll show you in a video on my You Tube Channel (just a little remark: I wanted to make a little mess in the video, normally I always use a big bowl ;-))

Now let’s talk about the wonderful ingredients and effects:

Pomegranates contain:

  • many valuable substances, which act together in a special way
  • more antioxidants than green tea, red wine or blueberries
  • phytochemicals such as flavonoids and tannins
  • Vitamins B, C, E and K
  • potassium

Thus, pomegranates are good for:

  • the heart and protect against high blood pressure,
  • are (due to the antioxidant effect) a super anti-aging food,
  • have a positive effect on digestion,
  • reduce the sugar absorption in the intestines,
  • strengthen the nerves

At the end I have a simple, but delicious recipe for a smoothie with pomegranates (Just throw everything in the blender at highest speed until all seeds are gone):

  • 1/2 pineapple
  • the seeds of one pomegranate
  • 1 cup rice milk (or any other milk or liquid you like)
